We joined an Invertebrate Symbiosis Workshop at the University of Miami

Our colleague, Shirley Pomponi, took part in the "Cell Culture in Symbiotic Invertebrates" on 27-28 May 2026 at the University of Miami in the US

As a Horizon Europe project, we are big advocates for cooperation between researchers. Only by joining forces and expertise, we can address some of the biggest challenges that our world is confronted with. And we had yet another chance to connect with our peers and share insights at the end of May!

Our colleague, Shirley Pomponi, went back to her alma mater, the University of Miami, for the "Cell Culture in Symbiotic Invertebrates" workshop, organised by the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science within the university. The goal of this workshop, sponsored by the Moore Foundation, was to bring together researchers and technology developers working across diverse cellular systems to look at the challenges and opportunities of establishing and advancing cell culture in marine invertebrates and other non-model organisms.

In addition to those directly focused on cell culture, participants included scientists whose expertise in cellular tools, methodologies, and experimental platforms developed in other systems, who offered fresh perspectives and transferable solutions. Through cross-disciplinary discussion, participants identified key barriers, shared emerging ideas, and defined a collaborative path forward for the field.

We're looking forward to hearing more about these interactions in the future - and we'd like to thank Shirley for being there (also) on our behalf.
