Meet the BLUES researchers: Prof. Buki Rinkevich

Prof. Rinkevich leads our work on cell lines development for the species of marine invertebrates we chose to focus on.
Meet the BLUES researchers: Prof. Buki Rinkevich

It's time we put the spotlight on another one of our brilliant researchers: this round, we are introducing Professor Baruch (Buki) Rinkevich, who is bringing not only an awe-inspiring CV to our team, but also plenty of positive energy and good humour!

Prof. Rinkevich is a highly-accomplished marine biologist and ecologist, with a PhD from Tel Aviv University, postdoctoral studies at Stanford University School of Medicine and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and decades of work spanning marine invertebrates immunology, developmental biology (whole-body regeneration, hibernation, pattern formation), stem cell biology and gene expression, marine genotoxicity and species barcoding, towards population genetics and coral reef restoration. He now works on marine invertebrates (primarily colonial tunicates and corals), targeting a wide range of biological levels, from the molecular, cellular and whole organismal levels, towards the ecological-ecosystem levels.

In our project, Prof. Rinkevich leads the work on cell lines development, from the four species of marine invertebrates we focus on and that produce compounds with industrial relevance. We are proud to work by his side!
